Location:
Naples is located on the west coast of Florida in Collier
County, approximately 100 miles west of Miami. It is the
southernmost major city on the west coast.
Local
Seasons:
It
is said that life in this subtropical coastal city is
perpetually sunny and sophisticated. If you like the beach,
golf, fishing, boating, or any outdoor activity, every
season is the perfect season in Naples. The winter tends
to be the most crowded as people from the northern states
like to get out of those snowy, bitter days and enjoy
the sunshine of southwest Florida. Fishing is fabulous
this time of year, particularly for big game fish. With
temperatures approaching 80 degrees F in the daytime and
only dropping to just under 70 degrees F at night, it’s
perfect for that romantic walk on the beach or dinner
at an outdoor café. Summer is less crowded and
with temperatures in the 90’s F during the day,
the beautiful Gulf of Mexico is a welcome relief. Even
though it’s humid in the summer, the average temperature
is only 82 degrees F, making it enjoyable. Summer is a
great time to enjoy some of the many attractions of Naples,
all of which are air-conditioned. Shopping is a must with
everything from antiques to the latest in fashion. Spring
and fall have the perfect temperature and temperament
for anyone. During both seasons, festivals abound. Spring
brings the annual Seafood festival, Orchid festival, Rose
festival, and even a Swamp Buggy Festival. In the fall,
things continue with a Sand Sculpting festival, the annual
Folk and Blues festival and the Hibiscus festival. With
temperatures so pleasant, these special events can make
your visit even more enjoyable. No matter what your reason
for visiting or the time of year you come, Naples is waiting
with a “sunny” smile.
Getting
There:
By
Car:
Main
access to the area is via I-75, known as Alligator Alley.
From I-75, three exits offer drivers entry into the area.
Exit 101 to SR 84 leads visitors to downtown Naples. This
is the best exit for visiting Fifth Avenue South, Third
Street South, the Naples Pier and the many shops, galleries
and restaurants in Old Naples. Exit 101 is also the exit
for Marco Island - just follow Collier Boulevard (SR 951)
west to the island. Exit 107 (Pine Ridge Road) leads you
directly to U.S. 41 and the heart of Naples. This is the
best exit to reach Clam Pass and Vanderbilt Beach parks,
as well as the area's leading beach and golf resorts.
Exit 111 (Immokalee Road) leads to North Naples to the
west and the National Audubon Society's renowned Corkscrew
Swamp Sanctuary, just 15 miles east.
Naples,
Marco Island, Everglades City and Immokalee can also be
reached from Miami via U.S. Highway 41, also known as
the Tamiami Trail. This road, designated as a National
Scenic Byway and Florida Scenic Highway, celebrated its
75th anniversary in 2003. This two-hour drive takes you
through the Everglades and Big Cypress National Preserve.
There are numerous scenic stops along the way. Drivers
passing at sunrise and sunset are often rewarded with
stunningly beautiful imagery. Anytime of the day you may
also spot many species of birds and wildlife.
